'Dame Sal'
A film for Al-Liquindoi × Luis Romero
Filmmaking, cinematography and visual direction for a key single from the EP Octubre.
01 / Context
Filmmaking for "Dame sal", a collaboration between Al-Liquindoi and Luis Romero included in the EP Octubre.
The project involved developing the visual concept for a key single in the duo's trajectory. Working alongside the artists from the start, my role covered everything from shooting to cinematography.
02 / Concept
Salt as an element of union and contrast, exploring emotional closeness in a raw and natural setting.
The concept revolves around the duality of the sea and affection, using the beach not just as a backdrop but as a character that interacts with the musicians. "Dame sal" translates visually into small gestures and tactile textures, where water and sand symbolize the tide of a relationship. The creative logic prioritizes the performers' honesty, avoiding artifice to focus on the shared energy during a sunset on the coast of Cádiz.
03 / Direction
A coastal aesthetic rooted in natural light and the organic texture of Andalusian beaches.
The art direction was built around the available light in Algeciras, seeking a warm and melancholic atmosphere to accompany the lyrics. There are no elaborate sets, just a minimalist staging where everyday elements, a branch on the sand or stones thrown into the sea, become powerful visual symbols. The visual language moves away from the rigid structure of the commercial music video toward a more authorial piece, where the rhythm is set by the genuine chemistry between Joel, José, and Luis.
04 / Process
An intensive outdoor shoot where guided improvisation captured moments of high emotional weight.
The project was concentrated into a single shoot day on the beaches of Algeciras, where adaptability was essential in such a constantly shifting environment. While recording the main song performances, we developed a parallel series of improvised B-roll shots. These real-time decisions, from interacting with elements of the landscape to conversations off-camera under the setting sun, added a layer of truth that a closed script would never have allowed.
05 / Impact
A music video that visually anchors the EP Octubre and reinforces the duo's identity within the independent music scene.
"Dame sal" serves as the visual backbone of a conceptual EP, bringing a coherent aesthetic that strengthens the work of Al-Liquindoi and Luis Romero for an audience already familiar with their universe. The piece adds visual maturity to the duo's trajectory without losing the intimacy that defines their work. Beyond the release, it stands as an honest record of an organic collaboration, where the simplicity of the visual language amplifies, rather than competes with, the weight of the music.
