'CANALLEO'
A film for TEETE
Filmmaking, art direction, graphic design and creative direction for a music video by TEETE.
01 / Context
Full creative direction for Canalleo, by TEETE, from script to cover art.
Canalleo was born as a song about desire, the pull toward someone who seems close but never quite belongs to the protagonist. From that tension I developed the full creative direction of the project, from the script to the shoot, the edit, and the cover art. The challenge was to translate a bright, flamenco, passionate song into a narrative where desire is always present without ever being fully shown.
02 / Concept
Desire without possession. A figure always present, yet impossible to see clearly.
The idea starts from a contradiction already present in the lyrics: "te quiero sin tenerte" (I want you without having you). The woman appears throughout the music video, but we never fully see her. Her face blurs through very slow shutter speeds, which makes her more a sensation, or a concept, than a character. For TEETE she is a presence that is both close and unreachable, and the song's canalleo becomes a game of approach between desire and curiosity.
03 / Direction
Flamenco passion, movement, and blur for an Andalusian world that sits between the intimate and the impulsive.
The direction moves between two spaces. The first is a dark, almost empty space, with three mirrors in the background, smoke, and a strong backlight that silhouettes TEETE. Seated on a flamenco chair, with a rose and a very physical way of moving, he performs the song through close-ups, medium shots, and moments that come straight at the camera. The second space takes that energy to the streets and coast of Andalusia, from the town of Vejer de la Frontera to El Palmar beach. The costume contrast, TEETE in dark tones and her entirely in white, visually separates them and turns the woman into an almost idealized apparition. At several moments the camera deliberately gives up sharpness. We worked with shutter speeds close to 1/8 and 1/10 so that movement would leave trails and faces hard to pin down. The blur is not a technical accident but part of the narrative: the more he tries to get close to her, the less clearly we can recognize her.
04 / Process
A two-day shoot that moves from backlight to the light of the coast.
The project was shot over two days. The first, in the interior space, with TEETE's performances on a stage reduced to light, smoke, a chair, and gesture. The second, outdoors, moving through different locations in the town of Vejer de la Frontera and ending at El Palmar beach. The script followed a simple progression: she crosses the protagonist's path, he watches her, and the narrative scenes are intercut with his backlit performance. The route brings them together in front of the sea, where he breaks the distance and the contact turns into a chase toward the water. They run, play, get soaked, and end up walking together along the shore. I handled the project from start to finish: I wrote and directed the music video, directed both performers, operated the camera, and took care of the edit and color. Afterwards I designed the cover art and the Spotify Canvas. The video closes by returning to the dark space of the opening, with TEETE throwing the flowers at the camera.
05 / Impact
A launch where the music video, the cover art, and the canvas speak the same language.
Canalleo made it possible to build a complete visual language around the song. Music video, cover art, and platform content share the same direction. The project places TEETE in an Andalusian, flamenco world close to his roots, but with a very contemporary approach to camera and color. The result is a desire that seems about to be reached, yet never fully reveals itself.
